FAQs

Please review the questions/answers below to see if some of your questions are already answered. More information is also provided under services. Please contact me with any additional questions.

Q: Does it hurt?

A: While everyone has different pain tolerances, overall these procedures for the most part, are pain free. As long as the client complies with the preparation instructions, there should only ever be a slight discomfort at times, which is easily managed with the use of topical anesthetics.

Q: What is a cosmetic tattoo? Is it permanent?

A: Cosmetic tattoos are primarily done to enhance one’s natural features. Done with the use of a tattoo machine and permanent makeup pigments, small pixilations of pigment are placed in to the skin through a needle.

Cosmetic tattoos are in fact tattoos, but do fade overtime and will require touch up sessions. It is not possible to determine when each client will need a touch up, but the average is typically between 1-2 years. Everyone retains pigment differently and skin types, lifestyle, skincare products can all effect the longevity of your cometic tattoo.

*Final results CANNOT be guaranteed as every client’s skin and medical history are different, thus resulting in varying pigment retention and break down. It is recommended to schedule a “perfecting” session 2-4 months after your initial session to layer in pigment and make changes if necessary. Some clients may require more than one session to achieve their desired results.

Q: Am I a good candidate for any of these services?

A: Please read Am I A Good Candidate? to determine if any of these services are right for you.

Q: Can I get tattooed by you if I have previously been tattooed elsewhere?

A: I take all previous work case by case. Please submit photos of your previous work you are either looking to touch up and/or correct to bare.tattoo1@gmail.com. All new clients will be “new client” pricing, not “touch up”.

*If you book without disclosing previous cosmetic work done on the area you are intending to get tattooed, you will lose your booking fee and may not be allowed to reschedule.

Q: Why don’t you offer microblading?

A: I am certified in microblading! I offered this service for years and while some clients were great candidates for the service, I found most of my clients were not. Microblading works best on certain skin types, and I felt a lot of my clients who wanted this service, did not have this particular skin type. So now I do hair strokes but with a machine only. I find the hair strokes last longer in the skin versus microblading, and my results are more consistent.

Q: What is the healing process like?

A: The skin healing process usually takes around 7-10 days. The first half of the healing process the skin will be tender and color will look bolder/brighter. The remainder of the time, the skin will look dry and flaky and color may look ashy/dull. The pigment healing process can take 4-6 weeks to settle in to the skin. This is why we wait a minimum of 8 weeks in between sessions to allow for skin healing and pigment settling to be able to safely layer color on top. Trust the process and follow your aftercare instructions.

Q: Will I still need to use makeup?

A: I never tell my clients to throw out their makeup after receiving any procedure. That is because we are simply and subtly enhancing your natural features. It is normal to need to use cosmetics occasionally to enhance the tattoo and blend in with the rest of your makeup. Keep in mind the tattoo will fade over time. I usually say when the tattoo is very faded to where it is still light on a no makeup day, then you are usually due for a tattoo touch up.

Q: When can I get botox/fillers?

A: Wait 4 weeks after getting botox/fillers to have your tattoo done. Your injector will say all product is settled after 2 weeks but I like to play it safe and say wait 4 weeks. We don’t want to move any unsettled product. If you plan to get botox/fillers after your procedure, wait minimum 2 weeks.

Q: how long do these procedures typically take?

A: These procedures typically take 2-3 hours depending on how much work needs to be done. It is best not to plan anything else to do around your tattoo appointment.

Q: What is the Perfecting session? Do I really need more than one session?

A: Immediately after your procedure, the color will appear bolder/brighter than it will when healed. Throughout the healing process the color will fade, and while some clients may like this, others may want more color. During your perfecting session, we assess how the skin healed from your initial session and layer in pigment where needed. We also can make any necessary changes with color and/or shape. With most clients it is recommended to plan for the need of two sessions due to skin type, lifestyle, skin products, and/or medical history.

*Please keep in mind, “perfecting sessions” should not be scheduled any sooner than 8 weeks (2 months) after your last session to allow for proper healing of skin to safely layer in pigment.

Q: Is tipping included/required?

A: Tips are not included in the price of the service but can be added when checking out the day of your procedure. Tips are not expected but always much appreciated (similar to your hairdresser, massage therapist, body art tattoo artist).
